The Wellness Center provides students and staff with a state-of-the art physical fitness facility at West Hills College Coalinga. The project entails a new 9,737 sf Wellness Center building, which accommodates a 3,100 sf fitness lab, a 1,183 sf training room and 5,454 sf of Athletics Department offices and support spaces.
In addition to the new Wellness Center building, a complete renovation and partial expansion of the existing locker room buildings was included in the project. Approximately 680 sf additions to the existing women’s and men’s locker room facilities were constructed to provide coaches and instructors with private changing quarters. Both existing locker rooms were completely remodeled to provide upgraded lighting, interior finishes, plumbing fixtures and accessories. The former weight room space, immediately adjacent to the women’s locker room, was also remodeled and now provides the college with a 2,310 sf aerobics room.
A complete renovation of the main gymnasium included new seating, wood flooring, acoustic ceiling finish, interior finishes, scoreboards and sound system.
The Wellness Center project also provided the campus infrastructure for video surveillance cameras, new access control, a new storm drain system that ties into Cambridge Avenue, a new chiller unit, related sitework and site utility upgrades.
Construction was completed in spring 2011. Total construction cost was $7,613,000.
